MY JOURNEY THROUGH THE VISUAL ARTS AND THE MYSTERY OF LIFE

Maria Rapela, 1979 (San José-Costa Rica),
Berlin-based artist since 2008.
I started my artistic education when I was 14 years
old and since then I dedicate myself to put colors
and shapes to the things that I live and happen to me in life.
My work deals with the tensions of identity,
the mystery of being, with and together with others.
I work like the poets, small themes,
everyday themes, human themes, archetypes
of universal themes, themes that concern
me and touch me personally, I seek to translate them
into abstract, neo-figurative or semi-abstract images.
The techniques that I use more are:
painting and drawing.
Sometimes I want to try new things and have
new challenges with other techniques such as
printmaking, animation, photography or writing.

Maria Rapela, 1979 (San José-Costa Rica), seit 2008 in Berlin ansässige Künstlerin.
Ich habe meine Ausbildung im Alter von 14 Jahren begonnen und widme mich seitdem der Aufgabe, den Dingen, die ich lebe und die mir im Leben widerfahren, Farben und Formen zu geben.
Meine Arbeit befasst sich mit den Spannungen der Identität, dem Mysterium des Seins, mit und zusammen mit anderen.
Ich arbeite wie die Dichter, kleine Themen, alltägliche Themen, menschliche Themen, Archetypen universeller Themen, Themen, die mich betreffen und mich persönlich berühren. Ich suche sie in abstrakte, neofigurative oder semi-abstrakte Bilder zu übersetzen.
Die Techniken, die ich am meisten verwende, sind Malerei und Zeichnung.
Manchmal möchte ich neue Dinge ausprobieren und habe neue Herausforderungen mit anderen Techniken wie Druckgrafik, Animation, Fotografie oder Schreiben.

In the series about sansevieria,
I work on the distance and the idea of home.
With my mother, who is on the other side of the ocean,
I share the care for the plants and the garden.
I like to think that the garden or the plants we have
at home are a kind of mini-paradise or lost Eden
that we try to recompose and rebuild.
With this serie of sensiverias,
I want to explore the possibilities of greens
and colors that work with these combinations.
Still life. Starting from a repeating motif,
a plant, a pot by the window,
I want to take a journey into the depths
of colors and shapes and textures.
Sometimes I feel like a tropical indoor plant,
already adapted to her new home.

In der Serie über Sansevierien arbeite ich an der Distanz und der Vorstellung von Zuhause.
Mit meiner Mutter, die auf der anderen Seite des Ozeans ist, teile ich die Pflege der Pflanzen und des Gartens.
Ich mag den Gedanken, dass der Garten oder die Pflanzen, die wir zu Hause haben, eine Art Mini-Paradies oder verlorenes Eden sind, das wir zu rekonstruieren und wieder aufzubauen versuchen.
Mit dieser Serie von Sansevierien möchte ich die Möglichkeiten von Grün- und Farbkombinationen erkunden. Stillleben. Ausgehend von einem wiederkehrenden Motiv, einer Pflanze, einem Topf am Fenster, möchte ich eine Reise in die Tiefen von Farben, Formen und Texturen unternehmen.
Manchmal fühle ich mich wie eine tropische Zimmerpflanze, die sich bereits an ihr neues Zuhause angepasst hat.
